About The Site - by Paul Reed (left)
I started the WW2 Cemeteries
website in an attempt to record all the British and
Commonwealth War Cemeteries across the world, and not
only provide information on their history, location
and who is buried there, but use the pages of the site
to memorialise those commemorated in this Silent
Cities of the dead.
While some of the information
recorded here is already available on-line at he Commonwealth
War Graves Commission site, it is not presented in
the same user friendly fashion, and doesn't include
the range of images this site will eventually contain.
While all of the research and
many of the photographs were taken on some of my
numerous trips to the battlefields of WW2 (myself,
left, shown in Normandy, researching visits around
Bayeux in August 2006), I am grateful to the many
people who have offered help, photographs and
encouragement: they are all listed below.
The Second World War is a legacy we
all share, and it is important we remember the sacrifice
of the service men and women buried in the Cemeteries
of WW2.
